Web Hosting

What is Web Hosting?

Welcome to Guide Tricks Tutorial Today I am Going to Discuss about hosting, As the name implies Web hosting is a service provided that allows organizations and individuals to post a website or web page into the Internet. Web hosting is the service that makes your website available to be viewed by others on the Internet. A web host provides space on its server, so that other can provide their websites.

According to Wikipedia

A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their website accessible via the World Wide Web.

Websites are hosted, or stored, on special computers called servers. When Internet users want to view your website, all they need to do is type your website address or domain into their browser. Their computer will then connect to your server and your webpages will be delivered to them through the browser. Most hosting companies require that you own your domain in order to host with them. If you do not have a domain, the hosting companies will help you purchase one.

What is web Host?

A web host, or web hosting service provider, is a business company that provides the technologies and services needed for the website or webpage to be viewed in the Internet. In other way Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server owned or leased for use by clients, as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for other servers located in their data center, called collocation, also known as Housing in Latin America or France.

Why Hosting is Important?

Hosting (also known as Web site hosting) it is More important than the computer space, it is provided for Web site files, it is fast connection to the Internet. Most hosting services offer connections on T-carrier system lines. It allows users to upload their own site design either HTML, PHP and some other programing language that is understood by browsers which makes it easily for people to find it all over the world.

Types Of Hosting

There are various types of hosting but for now I would list the basic ones Internet hosting services can run Web servers. The scope of web hosting services varies greatly.

Smaller Hosting services: Smaller Hosting Service The most basic is web page and small-scale file hosting, where files can be uploaded via File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or a Web interface. The files are usually delivered to the Web "as is" or with minimal processing.

Larger Hosting Services: large hosting service Many large companies that are not Internet service providers need to be permanently connected to the web to send email, files, etc. to other sites. The company may use the computer as a website host to provide details of their goods and services and facilities for online orders.

A complex site calls for a more comprehensive package that provides database support and application development platforms (e.g. ASP.NETColdFusionJava EEPerl/PlackPHP or Ruby on Rails). These facilities allow customers to write or install scripts for applications like forums and content management. Also, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is typically used for websites that wish to keep the data transmitted more secure.
    ·       Shared web hosting service:
    ·       Reseller web hosting
    ·       Virtual Dedicated Server
    ·       Managed hosting service
    ·       Cloud hosting

v Shared Web Hosting Service: one's website is placed on the same server as many other sites, ranging from a few sites to hundreds of websites. Typically, all domains may share a common pool of server resources, such as RAM and the CPU. The features available with this type of service can be quite basic and not flexible in terms of software and updates.

v Reseller Web Hosting: allows clients to become web hosts themselves. Resellers could function, for individual domains, under any combination of these listed types of hosting, depending on who they are affiliated with as a reseller. Resellers' accounts may vary tremendously in size: they may have their own virtual dedicated server to a collocated server.

v Virtual Dedicated Server: also known as a Virtual Private Server (VPS), divides server resources into virtual servers, where resources can be allocated in a way that does not directly reflect the underlying hardware. VPS will often be allocated resources based on a one server to many VPSs relationship, however virtualization may be done for a number of reasons, including the ability to move a VPS container between servers. The users may have root access to their own virtual space.

v Managed Hosting Service: the user gets his or her own Web server but is not allowed full control over it (user is denied root access for Linux/administrator access for Windows); however, they are allowed to manage their data via FTP or other remote management tools. The user is disallowed full control so that the provider can guarantee quality of service by not allowing the user to modify the server or potentially create configuration problems. The user typically does not own the server. The server is leased to the client.

v Cloud Hosting: is a new type of hosting platform that allows customers powerful, scalable and reliable hosting based on clustered load-balanced servers and utility billing. A cloud hosted website may be more reliable than alternatives since other computers in the cloud can compensate when a single piece of hardware goes down. Also, local power disruptions or even natural disasters are less problematic for cloud hosted sites, as cloud hosting is decentralized.

Types of Web Hosting Services

Internet Service Providers (ISPs):  majority of people put up their first websites through their ISPs, because it's generally easy and inexpensive. Most ISP service packages include a small amount of free web space, along with tools to create and upload websites quickly and easily. ISP websites are perfect for people who want to put up small sites with low amounts of traffic.

ü Free Web Hosting: Free web hosting is another good option for smaller business or personal websites. There are many free hosting providers that offer all types of features. The drawback to freest hosting services is that they are funded by advertising that appears on your site, so free web hosting so generally best for personal, rather than business, websites, free hosting have also restriction to user and the can terminate your website whenever the fell to or when you violate their terms of Service, but you can start using free web hosting in other to developed the basic skill, knowledge about blogging.

ü Paid Hosting:  With paid hosting, you pay a fee for space and services on a web hosting provider's server. Monthly fees can range from a few dollars to several hundred dollars. Obviously, the more you pay, the more features you should have at your disposal. Services can include CGI access, database support, ASP, e-commerce, SSL, additional space on the server, extra bandwidth, and more. It also allows you to customize anything within your site without any policy or restriction.

ü Domain Hosting: A good option for business service and for personal blog is to pay for domain hosting. Domain hosting allows you to host your site anywhere you like: on an ISP, a free hosting service, or even your own server. You buy a domain name and have the provider forward all requests for that domain to the actual web location. This is often less expensive than buying both the domain and the hosting service, and it allows businesses to brand their URLs.
